21: Card Counting Explained
What Is Card Counting?
Card counting is a gambling strategy used on blackjack games. Players who utilize this strategy are effectively trying to decrease the casino house edge .The advantage the casino has over you, the player, while keeping a tally of the cards the dealer moves through in the deck. By following the cards, the player will be able to guess which cards are more likely to turn up in the next hand and will allow the player to understand when to bet big or small.
To count cards, players must assign a value to every card. One of the most popular ways of doing this is as follows:
Cards 2 to 6 have a value of +1
Cards 7 to 9 have a value of 0
Cards 10, King, Queen, Joker, and Ace have a value of -1
When the game begins, there is a count of 0 but as the game plays, the player must either add a point, subtract a point or do nothing whenever a card is dealt for each player. The player must keep a count with the values and then add the totals for each player together to create a running count for the entire table.
If the running count is +3, it means the upcoming cards should be of a higher value and players should place bigger bets. If the running count is lower than -2, it means the upcoming cards are of a lower value and players should place smaller bets. When the deck is reshuffled, the running count goes back to zero.
This is one form of card counting available but there are countless other ways to count cards, although most of them are significantly more difficult to do. Regardless, it’s important to remember that card counting is a long-term strategy and should only be done by people who have experience playing blackjack.
Where Can You Do Card Counting?
While this sounds great, it’s important to understand that card counting is now banned at casinos worldwide. What’s more, most casinos use multiple decks to prevent players from card counting. This means it’s practically impossible to employ this strategy when playing at a brick-and-mortar casino.
Similarly, card counting cannot be done at all at online casinos or their sister sites since a random number generator and games determine everything are automatically played out for you. Ultimately, card counting just cannot be done anymore either in real-life or online, and that’s a good thing for you, the casino, and for all the other people playing too.
There’s probably no blackjack fan on the planet that hasn’t watched the movie 21 that revolves around one of the most controversial topics in the world of online gambling card counting.
This activity, that some also call card reading, is common for blackjack games where players allegedly rely on their mental capacity to note down all the cards of high and low value they see and remember them. Once card counters analyze the remaining cards, they can decide whether they’ll have an advantage in the next hand or not.
The speculations about the legality of card counting are still all over the web. Although this practice is not officially illegal, it is frowned upon by casinos and considered cheating, thus allowing casinos to keep the right to ban card counters for life.
Yet, even though it sounds like a fantastic way to earn extra cash by playing cards, we can’t help but wonder whether card counting is possible or it’s just presented as such on the big screen.
What Is the Movie All About?
The movie 21 is said to be based on a true story about a mathematics major at MIT, Ben Campbell, who is trying to find a way to pay school tuition after he got accepted at Harvard Medical School.
The solution to his problem arrives in the form of an ingenious professor with brains for statistics, Micky Rosa, who’s created a group of six most intelligent MIT students and trained them to become professional card counters.

Is Card Counting Possible in Real Life?
When you see the group of most gifted MIT students count cards in a movie, it all seems so simple. Yet, although it is possible, card counting it’s easier said than done.
To be able to count cards, you need to have a good memory and power of deduction. Once a dealer shuffles the card, there is an equal number of high and low cards on the deck. This ration changes after the opening round in which the dealer gives out cards to each player.
The job of the card counter is to closely monitor whether there are more high or low cards played. If the number of high cards played is higher, it means there will be more low cards remaining, and the other way around.
The strategy most commonly used in card counting includes assigning a value to a particular card group. For instance:
● cards 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are assigned a +1 value
● cards 7, 8, and 9 are assigned a 0 value
● cards 10, J, Q, K, and A are assigned a -1 value.
According to this principle, card counters will follow every card played and add the value for every hand, including the dealer’s hand until the end of the round. Should the count be positive, the card counters will know they have an advantage in the next round and that it’s time to place higher bets.
Can Online Casinos Prevent Card Counting?
Online casinos don’t officially consider card counting illegal, but they can deactivate your account and confiscate all your winnings if they catch you practicing this activity. While land-based casinos have cameras and can monitor players’ actions, this is not quite possible when playing blackjack online.
However, they do have some strategies that can be used to disturb card counters. One of the techniques used is forcing a shuffle after finishing a hand so that the counter has to start from the beginning every time.블랙잭사이트
In online casinos that offer live dealer games, it’s possible to switch the dealer with a more experienced one or combine more techniques into one. All in all, card counting is technically possible, but not exactly approved by casinos, and so our advice for you is to relax and play games for fun which is the reason they exist in the first place.
